The Ashen Throne open beta is live, free to start, and does not require an invite. The quickest route is to open the official browser game, turn your device to landscape, and choose guest play or an account sign-in.

Ashen Throne is a post-apocalyptic 4X strategy MMO built around a mobile Crawler base, squad combat, extraction, alliances, and a player-run economy.

Another game on Steam uses the same name. If the page describes an action MMORPG instead of a 4X strategy MMO, it is not this Ashen Throne.

What happens in your first session

Ashen Throne does not begin with a static city screen. Your first job is to recover and command a Crawler, the moving fortress that anchors your strategy.

The guided opening introduces the game in a practical sequence:

1. Restart the Generator. This introduces Crawler facilities and the production systems that keep the base operating.
2. Drive the Crawler. Your base changes position on the world map, so movement is a strategic decision rather than a background timer.
3. Reach a Signal Beacon. The Beacon introduces commander recruitment and begins shaping your squad.
4. Build and train. You prepare troops and the facilities needed to support them.
5. Run an extraction. This teaches the difference between finding resources and bringing them home.
6. Craft and equip a skill card. Commanders are defined by more than raw levels, and early loadout choices introduce that layer.
7. Survive the opening fight. The encounter puts movement, troops, commander choices, and combat together.
8. Arrive in the Frontier. This is the main world's safe zone and the point where the broader 4X game opens up.

The exact pacing may change as the beta evolves, but the purpose is stable: learn how your Crawler, commander, squads, and extraction loop connect before taking on open-world risk.

What to do after reaching the Frontier

The Frontier is the only safe zone. Use it to understand your Crawler and prepare before moving into the PvP-enabled Wastes or Deep Wastes.

Your early priorities should be:

• keep core production and military facilities progressing;
• build a squad with a clear commander and troop plan;
• learn how extraction sites, carried haul, and banking work;
• study the zone boundaries before sending your Crawler outward;
• join an alliance when you are ready for coordination, reinforcement, and larger objectives.
